RE is a cocktail bar in Sydney that rethinks wasteful practices. From the materials and supply chain, all the way down to the drinks themselves, everything you touch and drink at RE is diverted from landfill.

Standard Projects worked with RE owner Matt Whiley to create a dynamic identity that reflects the revolutionary philosophy behind the bar. Inspired by Matt’s ethos of turning waste into wonder, we wanted the identity to do the same. We explored the beauty in imperfection, creating an identity that is both ugly and beautiful, elegant and brutal.

The design celebrates the produce and the art of cocktail making, with literal pieces of fruit building a palette of rich textures, which is contrasted with a brutalist approach to type and accented with a dynamic, constantly changing identity.

From signage and menus to merchandise and a digital experience, the identity helps to bring Matt’s regenerative, revolutionary thinking to life. Since opening, RE has been voted one of the World’s Best Bars and the World's Most Sustainable Bars.
