Basis Grotesque Mono

Originally drawn in a Regular weight for the comprehensive re-design of photography magazine HOTSHOE, we are pleased to release BASIS GROTESQUE commercially, some three years after its initial conception.

Over the course of the past 36 months, we’ve exhaustively refined and extended the family into a 16-style brood, and in-so-doing have had the opportunity to test all iterations and sub-iterations of BASIS GROTESQUE across countless platforms, printed and otherwise.

Initial points of inspiration — among them Akzidenz and various early Grotesques from Monotype — were ultimately eschewed-but-honored to create something slightly more behaved and shapely. An intentional skeletal similarity among the weights prompts an otherwise truly diverse clan of types, ranging from Light to Black with corresponding Italics, and complemented by Monospaced cuts in both Regular and Bold weights (also with partner Italics, of course). Extensive OpenType features abound, and support for both Cyrillic and Greek are available in all Pro styles.
