Universal Sans
by Family Type
Universal Sans is a variable typeface system designed by Briton Smith for Family Type. The idea was to build a universal sans serif typeface that allowed for a large range of customisation. Universal Sans enables users to create and download their customised variation of the typeface instantaneously, reducing the long lead-times and high costs often typical of custom typeface projects.
Universal Sans puts customised type within reach of anyone, or any project. The typeface was designed on five adjustable core axes with an extensive range of stylistic alternates to allow for an infinite number of unique outcomes. While there are limitless possibilities, the typeface system adheres to fundamental typographic principles to ensure the end product is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
